□ On Thursday, April 11, President Moon Jae-in delivered a congratulatory message on video at the opening ceremony of the 34th Conference of General Directors of Cooperation between Railways(OSJD). Minister Kim Hyun-mee of MOLIT attended the ceremony to welcome delegates from countries and delivered a message of gratitude.

ㅇ OSJD Conference of General Directors is the meeting attended by the CEOs of railway operating organizations in the full member countries. It was the first time hosting the conference in Korea since Korea has come a full member of OSJD last year.

□ President Moon Jae-in spoke of his hope for making lasting peace in the Korean peninsula with railways and his expectation for the "East Asian Railway Community" to be the starting point for a multilateral security cooperation system. He also mentioned Korea’s effort to reconnect the inter-Korean railway which will bring about the completion of the Eurasia’s "Iron Silk Road."

□ Minister Kim Hyun-mee said that Korea’s joining OSJD is very meaningful since it provides a foundation for the international railway to operate again. She expressed her thanks to the member countries for supporting Korea’s becoming the member.

ㅇ In addition, she presented Korean government’s efforts related to reconnecting the inter-Korean railway by conducting a North and South joint inspection on railroad and having a ground-breaking ceremony for the inter-Korean railway.

ㅇ With success of the inter-Korean railway project, she expects the day will come soon for the trains to travel freely to the OSJD member countries in Eurasia from the Republic of Korea, the eastern end of Asia.
