◈ Korea hosts ITF summit in Germany from the 22nd as the chair country
◈ Over 1,400 to attend including minister-level representatives from 59 member countries, transportation companies and press companies around the world
◈ This year, discussions will be held on cooperative projects to improve transport connectivity between regions and countries under the agenda “Transport Connectivity for Regional Integration”

□ The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) announced that it would be hosting the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) ITF (International Transport Forum) summit under the theme “Transport Connectivity for Regional Integration” for three days from May 22, 2019 at Leipzig, Germany.

□ The ITF is a ministerial-level assembly that is in charge of transport policies within the OECD. It holds transportation ministerial meetings in Germany every May to act as a global platform to lead various discourses in the global transportation sector such as reduction of greenhouse gases, autonomous driving technologies, and connection of international transportation networks.

ㅇ The ITF is comprised of 44 European countries including England and Germany, and 15 non-European countries such as Korea, USA, Japan and China.

ㅇ Korea became the chair country for the first time 13 years after becoming a member country, and it is the second Asian country to serve as the chair country of the ITF.

□ This year, about 1,400 people are expected to attend including Korean Vice Minister Kim Jeong Ryeol, minister-level delegates from the 59 member countries, and transportation companies and press companies around the world.

□ Also, the agenda for this ITF summit is, “Transport Connectivity for Regional Integration” and it is scheduled to focus on talking about how transport connectivity will be able to contribute to regional integration, economic and social growth, and solving environmental issues.“

ㅇ The main conference will talk in detail about ① global community connection for sustainable economic growth, ② expanding connectivity that transcends borders, and ③ better policies to integrate cities and suburbs.

- During the panel session, discussions will be held on ① connection of means of transportation and infrastructure, ② aviation connection between regions, ③ supply network connectivity in the changing world economy, and ④ connection between regions using railway, etc.

- In the round table meeting and public session joined by ministers of each nation, the focus will be on ① means of transportation and climate change, ② governance of new mobility, ③ improved connectivity using transportation, energy and communication networks.

□ In addition to this, a national online quiz event will be through the MOLIT homepage to increase national interest on the ITF that Korea will host as the chair country.

ㅇ The national online quiz event will be held for 14 days from May 13 to 26 and anyone can participate easily via the MOLIT homepage (http://www.molit.go.kr).

□ MOLIT Vice Minister Kim Jeong Ryeol said, “We hope that through the programs that we prepared carefully as the chair country, it will be possible to discuss the pending issues and concerns of member countries and discuss cooperation plans so that we can find sustainable solutions for everyone.”

ㅇ She added, “I believe that this year’s agenda is very appropriate and timely as connectivity has become a key issue of the times that touches upon all sectors to be discussed by the ITF.”

ㅇ She further added, “We invite you to look on to see how communities and cities can become integrated with other regions of the world and what improvements can be made to transportation connection so that goals can be achieved from a social, economic and environmental perspective.”
