Road show at UAE and Qatar from the 15th... Largest delegation ever including private sector

□ The MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) announced that it will hold “Korea’s ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems Road Show” in the UAE (Dubai) and Qatar (Doha) from June 15 to 21 jointly by the government and private sectors.

* Co-hosted by the Intelligent Transport Society of Korea (ITS KOREA) and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA)

ㅇ This road show was organized to introduce and export Korea’s ITS that includes transportation centers, high-tech signals, and bus information systems in the UAE and Qatar, which are accelerating investments for smart transportation infrastructure.

ㅇ In particular, due to expectations for the growth potential of the Middle Eastern ITS market, private companies representing Korea’s ITS are actively participating and it is expected that the largest-ever delegation will be dispatched.

* Participating companies: LG CNS, KT, Novacos, Dot, Laon People, Rexgen, Sign Telecom, Mqnic, S1, Tracom, Thinkware & iNavi, POSCO International, Korea Expressway Corporation, Hyundai Motors - 14 companies

- Plans are to not only share the latest ITS policies and technologies of the two countries, but also introduce the technologies possessed by Korean companies, and it is expected that this conference held in the UAE and Qatar, who are very interested in Korean companies, will be very effective.

□ It is expected that the UAE’s smart infrastructure market will grow to 11 billion USD by ‘23 and efforts are being made on expanding the infrastructure based on plans to automate 25% of all transportation in Dubai by 2030.

ㅇ As part of the Smart Nation Program (TASMU*) under the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Qatar is pursuing a smart transport program that includes digital kiosks for public transportation, autonomous automobile reservation using mobile phones, electronic payment, public transportation management reflecting the real-time number of passengers, etc. by 2020.

ㅇ Accordingly, the MOLIT is planning to introduce Korean cases customized to the two countries such as C-ITS, autonomous cooperation driving, high-tech signals, and smart tolling, while making sure that they understand that Korea would be their best business partner.

□ MOLIT ITS and Road Safety Division Manager Kang Sung-seup said, “As a joint support team comprised of the public and private sectors including both small and large companies will be dispatched, it is expected that there will be synergy effects for promoting Korean technologies, and we are planning to actively bid to participate in ITS projects in the Middle East.”

ㅇ He added, “In order to continue the achievements of this road show, we will hold an invitational training session in Korea for major ordering bodies and corporate representatives of the UAE and Qatar in the second half of this year. By doing so, we will allow them to actually experience Korea’s advanced intelligent transportation systems and continue efforts to pioneer export channels to the Middle East.”
