□ MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) announced that the ‘1st public company joint overseas infrastructure youth internship’ pursued with the goal of promoting employment in overseas infrastructure sectors as part of the ‘Global Young Leader Fostering Project’ was completed successfully on July 16.
- A total of 26 people participated in the 1st public company joint overseas infrastructure youth internship where they gained experience in overseas construction at 13 foreign construction sites for four public companies such as the Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH), Korea Water Resources Corporation (K Water), Korea Expressway Corporation (EX) and the Korea Rail Network Authority (KR).
* LH (Kuwait, Vietnam, Indian, Myanmar, Bolivia), K Water (Pakistan, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia), EX (Ethiopia, Mauritius, Bangladesh), KR (China, Indonesia)
- Interns who showed exemplary talent can receive benefits when applying for jobs at the corresponding public corporations according to the hiring point system operated according to their own standards.
- As the reactions for the ‘public company overseas infrastructure youth internship’ program were very good, the MOLIT is planning to offer overseas infrastructure site experience opportunities to more youths by expanding the number of participating public corporations for the 2nd interns who are scheduled to be recruited around October of this year.
□ The ‘Global Young Leader Fostering Project’ supports small and medium-sized companies engage in overseas construction projects and helps foster customized personnel through the ‘Overseas Construction OJT (On-the-Job Training) Support Project’ and ‘Youth Internship Support Program’, while also providing employment opportunities to youths who are interested in working abroad, thus reaping effects in various aspects.
- The ‘Overseas Construction OJT (On-the-Job Training) Support Project’ provided support for employing over 2,000 new workers in 124 small and medium construction companies and dispatching to 415 foreign sites in 66 countries. In early 2019, 64 people were selected for 14 countries and are scheduled to begin overseas training.
- The ‘Youth Internship Support Program’ that was newly implemented in 2018 provides support in training and living costs for not only public company interns for overseas infrastructure who will be recruited in the second half of the year, but also for interns who will work in international organizations involved in overseas infrastructure and urban development such as Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations Development Programme (UINDP) and United Nations HABITAT and etc.
□ Individuals and companies who would like to participate in the ‘Global Young Leader Fostering Project’ can apply by submitting the application form and necessary documents by mail or visiting the International Contractors Association of Korea. Once selected after reviews, training costs, dispatch costs and living allowances will be provided.
