Recalls on Vehicles Become Easy to Check from Jan 15.
- Motor Vehicle Recall Center Homepage Upgraded to Provide Information on Vehicle Recall Measures, Etc.

MOLIT (Minister Hyunmee KIM) announced that it would upgrade its vehicle defect and recall information provision functions from January 15 (Wed) to offer an improved Motor Vehicle Recall Center (car.go.kr) homepage. In the past, it was possible to check whether the vehicle was subject to recalls only by entering the vehicle information (vehicle registration no., vehicle identification no.) at the Motor Vehicle Recall Center homepage (car.go.kr). In this upgraded homepage, it will now be possible to check whether recalls were received just with the vehicle plate no. and vehicle identification no. Using this service, consumers will also be able to easily check the recall history for rental cars and used car sales, which were difficult to check in the past.

Also, the mobile homepage functions were also improved to use functions that were available only on the PC homepage (online defect reports, etc.) using mobile devices as well. Furthermore, the homepage was remodeled to provide defect and recall information related to the vehicle when being reported for defects, as well as improved defect reporting and recall statistics functions, and a variety of other kinds of information.

In addition to upgrading the homepage, a ‘comprehensive defect information analysis system’ was constructed to detect vehicle defects early on by automobile defect investigation agencies (Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute) by analyzing defect information per model, type and accident collected through materials provided by manufacturers, defect reports, etc. It is expected that the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute will be able to conduct systematic and prompt automobile defect investigations by utilizing this comprehensive analysis system.

MOLIT Director of the Motor Vehicles Policy Division Jinhwan YOON said, “With the growing importance of automobile defect analysis and investigations resulting from the rise in automobile recalls lately (cases, cars), we will conduct thorough and preemptive defect surveys for the safety of our citizens.”
