Test Operation of Performance Test Report Issuance Service at Drone Flight Test Site from July 28

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Won Hee-Ryong, MOLIT) announced that it will start “Performance Test Report” Issuance Trial Service for the domestically developed drone together with Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology in 5 drone flight test sites (Incheon, Hwaseong, Yeungwol, Boeun, Goseong) successively from July 28.

For drone exceeding 25kg, the performance check was possible through the safety certification, but for the drone weighed 25kg or less, since there was no way to verify the objective performance, in case that the client such as public institution, etc. demands the performance certificate, as the seller receives unnecessary performance certification separate and submit it, it has been a burden for the seller.

Therefore, to solve such difficulty of industry, MOLIT promotes the issuance of performance test report for the drone weighed 25kg or less.

For the issuance of drone performance test report, the trial operation with 8 test items will be made in Incheon and Hwaseong Drone Flight Test Sites from July 28 to the end of September and from October, it is planned to be expanded and implemented in 5 Drone Flight Test Sites across the country by complementing details such as test procedure, etc. (test item will be expanded to 16 items by step**).

* Incheon and Hwaseong Test Site (implemented from July 28) → Yeungwol, Boeun and Goseong Test Site (implemented from October, 2022)

** * types of test such as altitude maintenance, route flight, etc. (From July 28) → addition 8 types such as static thrust, flight load, etc. (expanded by step from October)

The subject of performance test during the trial period shall be the drone weighed 25kg or less out of the unmanned flying devices (unmanned aircraft, unmanned helicopter, unmanned multi-copter weighed 150 kg or less) specified in Aviation Safety Act and it is planned to provide the flight test report issuance service for the medium or large drone exceeding 25 kg if the production company may want.

Kim Dedong-Ick, director of Advanced Aviation Division at MOLIT said “This trial service is expected to be a welcome rain like system for the industry, which has difficulties to sell because it does not have a way to prove the performance although it manufactured the drone with good performance, and

Stated “in future, we will prepare the support measures essential for the development of industry with active communication with industry.

Drone performance test can be applied through the reservation system of Drone Flight Test Site operated by Korea Institute for Aviation Safety Technology (https://dronetest.kiast.or.kr).
