The Aviation English Training Center (AETC) was unveiled in 2005 following Korea’s commitment to meet ICAO’s English language proficiency requirement for air traffic controllers and pilots involved with international operations.
The purpose of the AETC is to help aviation-related personnel, within Korea, improve their aviation English skills to meet the ICAO Langauge Proficiency Standard requirement.
History
The AETC started to offer『the advanced aviation English course』to ACC workers in September, 2005. The official opening ceremony was on November 11, 2005 on the 3rd floor in the ACC building. Since that time, we have provided aviation and special English courses to more than 500 government employees in Korea.

Instructor Introductions
Chung, Hee Jeung
I am a former US federal government employee who has served at the US Army Training and Doctrine Command, the US Department of Defense, as a tenured Assistant Professor, in foreign language education division for 6 years.
At the same time, I am a fully licensed and credentialed teacher by State of California, California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).
And I am now serving as a faculty member of Aviation English Training Center.
I have been keenly trained and intensively experienced in practicing and researching proficiency-based foreign language instructional methodologies and pedagogies during the last several years in the US.
I have researched, developed, and practiced a variety of interactive group activities specially designed for foreign language proficiency enhancement.
I am also professionally trained in the field of developing foreign language curriculum for government officials as well as foreign language proficiency evaluation and testing.
In addition, I am intensively experienced in practicing adult learning theories and second language acquisition principles, as well as classroom management skills.
I believe that foreign language instruction is a very exciting and professional field, which needs to fully utilize professional foreign language teaching methodologies and theories as well as a teacher's creativity.
I am personally a big fan of student-centered Content-Based Instruction and Task-Based Instruction as well as Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English among the many effective foreign language instruction methodologies in the professional ESL/EFL field.
And the successful implementation of those principles is the key of in the success as a faculty member in foreign language education.
At the same time, I believe that curriculum of the ESL/EFL should include cultural and social instruction with the target societies so that students can be culturally competitive and socially immersed into not only English language skills but also open into the different cultures and the societies where the target language is being spoken as a native language.
I am more than delighted to serve as a faculty in an Aviation English Training Center, the Air Traffic Center, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea, and I truly wish that I may become your meaningful faculty member who inspires you to become a great international leader by possessing competitive English skills, internationally open-mind, and appreciation for the world diversity so that we, after all, can enhance global competency of the our organization.
