Applications for Yongsan Base Bus Tour to be Received from January 3
- Apply at the Yongsan Culture Center homepage... To be held a total of 8 times from January to March, first tour on January 17
□ The ‘Yongsan Base Bus Tour‘ where citizens can view the major sites of the US military base in Yongsan, which has been closed to the public for 114 years, will be held for a total of eight times from January to March.
ㅇ MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) announced that it would receive the first applications for the ‘19 Yongsan Base Bus Tour through the Yongsan Culture Center homepage on January 3 and 4 of 2019.
□ Last year when the tour first started, the Prime Minister, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Mayor of Seoul, National Assemblymen, Former Cultural Heritage Administrator Yoo Hong-joon, and other noted figures as well as the general public for a total of 330 people participated over six tours.
ㅇ There were evaluations that it had significant historical and cultural meaning as people were able to experience a place that was off limits for 114 years, and there were also opinions that the tour should be expanded in the future and that selection of participants should be changed from first-come-first-serve to lottery methods.
□ Such opinions will be reflected as much as possible to continue the bus tours in 2019, and with the positive support and cooperation of the US military, a total of 8 tours will be held over three months starting on January 17 (Thu) (1/17, 1/25, 2/14, 2/22, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29).
ㅇ Applications for participation will be selected through a lottery system from the internet applications submitted through the Yongsan Culture Center (www.ysac.or.kr) homepage.

□ A speaker from the MOLIT said, “The US military, Seoul City, and Yongsan-gu will hold close discussions so that more Korean citizens can experience Yongsan base after April, 2019 as we plan to continue to expand the program, so we ask for the interest and participation of citizens.“
