Overseas Construction and Plant Meister High School Graduates First Students... 85% Employment Rate
- Dispatch 26 people to overseas sites of public corporations... Pursue internship programs at international organizations and overseas offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
□ The first students from Korea’s first overseas construction and plant meister high school (Seoul Urban Science Technical High School, Principal Lee Jo-bok) graduated. 107 out of the 126 graduates successfully landed jobs.
◦ The overseas construction and plant meister high school established by MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mi) in 2016 to foster overseas experts stably in the long-run held its first graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 11th (Fri.).
□ Senior Vice-minister Park Sun-ho said, “By combining the information communication capacities that we compiled over the past years with convergence technologies, it will be possible to greatly increase entry into overseas markets in the smart infrastructure and smart city sectors in the future.”
◦ He added, “We will provide full support together with schools, companies and the community to help graduates find jobs, enter overseas markets, and achieve their goals and dreams.”
□ MOLIT provided 5 billion KRW since 2015 to construct new dormitories, improve lab facilities, research on educational textbooks, support on overseas training, etc.
◦ The school fulfilled its role as a meister (technical master) fostering institute by providing education customized to industry demands, foreign language and foreign culture education to students based on its latest facilities and materials.
◦ In result, even amidst sluggish youth job markets, industry-government-academic MOUs* and school seminars for companies were used to achieve the feat of reaching employment rates for over 85% of the first graduates.
□ Furthermore, MOLIT is operating the WIFI* (World Infra Frontier Internship) program to continuously foster experts for overseas sites and to create jobs for youths.

◦ In the future, it is planning to actively foster global youths by introducing internship programs at international organizations such as the UN Human Settlement Programme (UN-HABITAT) and overseas offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- In addition, MOLIT is considering to provide benefits such as bonus points when students at the meister high school apply for the overseas infrastructure internship program.
