- Begins on May 29 for two-days non-stop... Inviting teams until May 6 on 3 projects

□ The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Kim Hyun-mee, hereinafter called MOLIT) will host the ‘3rd Land Transport Big Data Hackathon’ to enhance utilization of data, which is a core resource of the age of the 4th industrial revolution and to speed up the data economy.

ㅇ The hackathon that has been held since ‘17 focuses on finding new types of policy-resolution plans in housing and transportation issues by combining MOLIT data such as actual transaction prices of real estate with ideas from the private sector.

ㅇ This year, the startup idea planning idea sector using data in land and transport fields was added to accelerate the data economy.

□ This contest will be held at Ilsan KINTEX from May 29 to May 30.

ㅇ It will be joined by the Korea Research Institute of Human Settlements, Korea Transport Institute, Korea Appraisal Board, Korea Expressway Corporation, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, and plans are to support participating teams through on-site mentoring, Q&A, resolving difficulties, etc.
□ Any and all Korean citizens are eligible to apply and teams can be made of two to five people and select a theme from ▲start-up idea, ▲living transportation policy resolution, and ▲residential stability policy resolution.

ㅇ Startup ideas is a project to make presentation of startup plans based on opened public data, and anyone with planning abilities and unique ideas can participate.

ㅇ Living transportation and residential stability policy issue resolutions are projects to come up with analysis results using data, and it requires data analysis and programming skills.

□ The outcomes of participating teams will be reviewed the review committee made up of industry, academic and research experts on technology, creativity, and possibility for utilization, and six winning teams will be selected and awarded.

ㅇ The outcomes of this hackathon will be disclosed to everyone through the MOLIT’s code archives (https://github.com/molit-korea).

□ Applications for the hackathon will be received from 9 a.m. on April 22 to 6 p.m. on May 6. Details are available on the homepage (http://www.onoffmix.com/event/175691).

□ A representative of MOLIT said, “Data are simply an arrangement of numbers, but there are boundless values hidden from being a tool for policy development and to the opportunity for startups,” and added, “We hope that people will be able to experience that any citizen can become the hero of the data economy through this contest.”
