The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT, Minister WON Hee-ryong) announced that it would launch the first phase of the Korean Urban Air Mobility (K-UAM) Demonstration Project** with the goal of commercializing the UAM* in 2025.
* Urban Air Mobility: High-tech transportation system for next-generation based on electric power, low-noise aircraft, and vertical take-off and landing ports
** 1st phase of the demonstration (Aug. 2023∼ Dec. 2024): Open land (Goheung, Jeollanam-do), 2nd phase (Aug. 2024∼Jun. 2025): Urban center (Seoul Metropolitan area)
The first phase of the demonstration will be largely divided into ① a single Research and Development (R&D) field and ② an integrated operation field.
Beginning on 21 August, ① the demonstrations in the single R&D field will provide an opportunity for five domestic consortiums & corporates* to participate and verify their advanced technologies.
