Minister Kim Hyun-mee Highlights Korea as a Venue to Realize Future Vision of Global Aviation
Minister Kim attends 75th IATA AGM held for the first time in Korea to celebrate the achievement of airline industry and promote Korea as a leading aviation country

□ Minister Kim Hyun-mee of MOLIT attended the 75th IATA Annual General Meeting(AGM) on 2 June, an event held for the first time in Korea. The Minister delivered a message of gratitude to the leaders of worldwide airlines and delegations from countries around the world for their efforts and cooperation contributed to the advancement of global aviation industry.
ㅇ IATA AGM amounts to a UN Assembly within the airline industry and represents some 287 members from all over the world. Around 1,000 attendees from IATA’s member airlines, aircraft manufacturers and aeronautical authorities gather to exchange their views on policy development covering the whole aviation industry including safety and aircraft operation as well as reforms on regulation. This is the first time that Korea hosts the global gathering of airlines’ top leaders.
ㅇ Under the theme of "The vision of Future", AGM will see a variety of constructive discussions among global aviation experts sharing their insights on the future of aviation industry, improvement of regulatory system and sustainable growth of the industry. The meeting will serve as a venue to seek solutions and ways to tackle the challenges facing the industry with a view to further developing global aviation industry.
□ "Although the Republic of Korea ranks 103rd by land area, Korean air carriers operate in the 7th largest sky network.", Minister Kim said in her congratulatory address, actively promoting Korea’s leading position in global aviation industry.
ㅇ While emphasizing Korea’s continued commitment to developing global air transport industry as an ICAO Council member since its first election in 2001, Minister Kim also asked for strong support and endorsement for Korea’s 7th term as an ICAO Council member which will be decided at the upcoming election in September at the 40th ICAO Assembly.
