□ MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) announced that it was discovered manufacturing flaws in 4,789 vehicles from 21 models imported and sold by Audi-Volkswagen Korea to conduct voluntary corrective actions (recalls).

□ First, it was discovered that 4,689 cars from 4 models such as the Audi A6 35(2.0) TDI imported and sold by Audi-Vokswagen Korea had an incompletely assembled auxiliary heater* power supply device. This can cause the auxiliary heater not to operate normally and in severe cases, there can be burning smells or even the possibility of fires.

* Auxiliary Heater Device: Separate from the regular heater, this device helps supplement heater performance when starting the engine and it is usually installed only in high-end vehicle models. Operation stops after the engine warms up and so it does not affect the regular heater performance

ㅇ This vehicle can be taken to any of the 34 official Audi service centers nationwide from March 29 to receive free auxiliary heater inspection and receive necessary repairs such as exchange of parts.

ㅇ In the case of 32 vehicles from 15 models including the Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI, it was found that the vehicles manufactured to show at motor shows or events or built for internal quality verification by the manufacturer were sold, and so all of these vehicles will be bought-back.

These vehicles did not manage the repair history before being put on display the events and therefore, they do not meet the internal vehicle production standards of Volkswagen, and it impossible to make accurate diagnoses and repairs in the event that flaws are found in the major structural devices of the vehicle. Therefore, they will be bought back and then receive inspections and then be scrapped in Korea so that these vehicles and parts cannot be reused.

ㅇ The two Tiguan2.0 TDI BMT were also built for new car release events and they do not meet the internal vehicle production standards of Volkswagen. It was found that in the event that repairs are made for some malfunctioning parts, there could be problems with parts compatibility and inability to update software, etc.

The above vehicles have repair history records such as exchanged parts prior to being displayed in events, so recalls will be conducted by replacing some parts (air control unit) or updating to the latest software (radio, navigation, and four-wheel drive system).

ㅇ These vehicles are being repaired (inspection followed by repair, software update and replaced with improved parts, etc.) free of charge at the 34 official Volkswagen service centers since March 25.

□ In the case of 57 Metropolis 400 motorcycles imported and sold by KR Motors, it was found that there were defects in the durability of the front brake hose, which causes brake oil leaks due to cracks in the hose, which could lead to loss of braking ability and harm driving safety.

ㅇ These vehicles can be repaired (exchange with improved parts) free of charge at the KR Motors Peugeot dealers from April 1.

☐ The makers will notify the vehicle owners via mail or mobile phone text message on recall instructions and in the event that the vehicle owners repaired the respective defects at their own expense* prior to the recall, the owners can request compensation to the makers for the repair costs.

* Automobile manufacturers, etc. must, pursuant to Article 31-2 of the Motor Vehicle Management Act, compensate expenses to automobile owners (owner of automobile including the person who took corrective action of defects or flaws during the possession period) who corrected defects and flaws on the date that is one year prior to announcing the defect or when defect inspections began, whichever comes first, and to automobile owners who corrected the flaw after announcing the defect

☐ For details, contact Audi (080-767-2834), Volkswagen (080-767-0089), Hanbul Motors (02-3408-1654), or KR Motors.

□ The MOLIT operates an automobile recall center (www.car.go.kr, 080-357-2500) for the purpose of collecting and analyzing manufacturing defect information of vehicles to ensure safety of citizens from automobile defects. Enter your vehicle number in the homepage to check whether your vehicle is subject to recall and the detailed manufacturing defects and flaws at any time.
