-Commemorative event of Railway Day on the 28th... Encouraging railway workers such as sharing the railway vision and giving awards, etc.-

□ The 2019 Railway Day commemorative event was held at the Millennium Seoul Hilton at 3 p.m. on June 28 (Fri).

ㅇ At this event, over 450 people were in attendance such as Vice Minister for MOLIT Kim Kyung-wook, Korea Railway Association Chairman Kim Sang-gyun, Korea Railway Corporation CEO Son Byung-seok, SR CEO Kwon Tae-myeong, and other figures in the railway industry, as well as Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee Chair Park Sun-ja, Assemblyman Yoon Young-il, and others.

ㅇ The Railway Day that is celebrating its 125th year anniversary this year, held its second commemorative event since changing the date to June 28.

□ This event, which was supervised by MOLIT and co-hosted by the Korea Railway Network Authority, Korea Railway Corporation and SR, and sponsored by the Korea Railway Association, was comprised of a commemorative stage containing the hopes and wishes of railway workers, awards to those who contributed to railways, and photo exhibits on the history of railways.

ㅇ This event was held under the slogan, “Our dreams with railways! A new age of peace and prosperity!”

ㅇ It contains the hopes and dreams of railway workers to create a path of co-prosperity and peace in Eurasia by connecting the Korean Peninsula railway and intercontinental railway.

□ At this commemorative event, the efforts of railway workers who made special contributions to the development of the railway industry were praised, and those present renewed their vows for the unity of railway workers and to build safe and convenient railways through the commemorative event.

ㅇ Furthermore, a space containing rare photos on the history of railways was set aside for not only participants of the event, but also the general public to view. This acted as an opportunity to once again look back on the history of Korea’s railway and to gain deeper insight.

□ In his address, Vice Minister for MOLIT Kim Kyung-wook looked back on the achievements of Korean railways and praised those who contributed to the development of railways, and urged that they continue to work hard for railway safety and to develop railway technologies.

□ Meanwhile, in celebration of Railway Day, the Korea Rail Network Authority, KORAIL and SR are offering various services such as raffle prizes to give parking lot discounts at major train stations around the nation, free KTX upgrades, and 10% discount coupons.
