Flight to a New Age, ‘2019 Korea Drone Expo’

 The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) will hold the ‘2019 Korea Drone Expo’ at the Ilsan KINTEX Exhibit Hall 1 for two days on December 11 (Wed) and 12 (Thu) under the theme, ‘Drone Industry, Flight to a New Age’.


 This expo is designed to create a consensus for fostering a strong drone industry, while maximizing outreach of the outcomes of the drone regulation deferment program (blanket application). The first drone piloting contest in the public sector will also be held during the expo.


 MOLIT has been actively pursuing the drone regulation deferment program for the early commercialization of outstanding technologies possessed by private drone companies and to extend and expand the drone industry through softened regulations, financial support, and linking supply and demand.

 Furthermore, it is also continuously supporting mission-specific drone pilot personnel fostering projects needed on worksites to promote drone utilization in the public sector such as national defense, security, environment, safety, measurement, etc.

 This expo will allow visitors to collectively verify the achievements of the domestic drone industry and its future development direction, and it will also provide various experience opportunities to guests such as flying drones.

 First, various institutes such as drone manufacturers, drone piloting and coding educational institutes, and public users, etc. to introduce drones being used in various industrial sites such as facility safety inspection, drone environmental safety monitoring systems, forest fire detection and extinguishing systems, and Korean drone defense systems.

 In particular, the drone demonstration city project joined by MOLIT and Jeju-do and Gyeonggi-do will show the test results of utilizing drones in urban areas that can be truly felt by citizens, whereas drones were usually used in suburban areas in the past.

 Furthermore, a ‘drone experience zone’ that will allow visitors to fly drones will also be operated, and consultations will also be offered by drone companies and public agencies for students and job-seekers interested in the drone industry.

 Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mee will have a meeting with representatives from the drone industry at the expo to listen to the voices of hands-on workers for the development of the drone industry, and she is expected to request the active cooperation of all relevant institutes including the private, government, military, industry, and academic sectors.

 In addition to this, on the first day, a drone talk show will be held emceed by TV personality Kim Hyung-gyu to share the outcomes of businesses participating in the drone regulation deferment program and will also talk about future development plans.

 Guests will also have the opportunity to watch drone demonstrations such as the 150 drone group flight ‘Drone Light Show’, ‘Ollegil Safety Service’ that is currently in test operation in Jeju-do, and a ‘response system’ that utilizes drones in the case of emergencies.

 On the second day, drone experts in various fields will gather to discuss successful cases of new drone businesses and global commercialization strategies, responses to illegal drones and technological levels, sharing new drone technologies, plans to activate government support projects, etc.

 Furthermore, the drone piloting contest to test skills in different drone utilization sectors such as police, fire fighting, coast guard, and territorial survey fields will be held, and participants with the best performance will receive the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport awards.

 It is expected that this contest will serve as an opportunity to directly compare and verify drone utilization in various public sectors, and will also be a chance to enhance drone utilization in the private sector as well.

 Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mee said, “I hope that the 2019 Korea Drone Expo will allow more citizens to experience drones and more students and youths to realize their dreams through drones.”

 She added, “The government will also provide continuous support so that the Korean drone industry will become globally competitive.”
