The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT, Minister PARK Sang-woo) announced that it is initiating full-scale research and
development into key technologies that power hypertube system as a three-year national project, running from 2025 to 2027 with a total
budget of KRW 12.7 billion (KRW 3.68 billion allocated in 2025) led by the Korea Railroad Research Institute.
Hypertube is a future-oriented transportation system with a speed of 1,200 km/h that propels a train through an ultra-low-pressure vacuum
tube (0.001–0.01 atm.) using magnetic levitation and electromagnetic forces. Originally introduced in 2013 under the name "hyperloop," the system is now commonly referred to as “hypertube” in South Korea and Europe.
The technology promises not only hyper-speeds faster than airplanes but also eco-friendliness and resilience to weather disruptions.
