Korea, Poland and Spain Team up for Railway, Smart City Infrastructure Cooperation
- spatch private-government joint cooperation team on the 14th... Discussions to diversify international railway cooperation plans and bidding support

□ MOLIT will dispatch a private-government joint infrastructure cooperation team led by Minister Kim Hyun-mee to Poland Spain from January 14 (Mon) to the 18th (Fri).

ㅇ The cooperation team will focus not only on providing bidding support for winning construction project contracts, but will also discuss cooperation on general infrastructure such as railway and smart city (hereinafter called smart city), while also focusing on constructing strategic partnerships to diversify the overseas construction bidding market for Korean companies.

□ They will first visit Poland, which is a powerhouse in railways and that can act as a bridge that connects Eurasia.

ㅇ Plans for the East Asia Railway Community that the Korean government is pursuing will be shared through meetings with the OSJD chairman and discussions will also be held on Korea‘s activity plans as a new member state of OSJD that it joined in June of last year, while also discussing cooperation plans between Korea and the organization.

□ They will then visit Spain, which is home to global construction companies such as ACS, Ferrovial and Acciona.

ㅇ It will hold interviews with the Spanish Minister of Development and hold network forums for major construction companies to search for ways to construction strategic partnerships to jointly enter third countries by utilizing the strengths of Korean and Spanish construction companies.

ㅇ Furthermore, in preparation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) general assembly of council states scheduled for September later this year, it will request support from Poland for the council state (Part III) elections, and will also promote the OECD International Transport Forum (ITF) Transportation Summit hosted by Korea as the chair country.

ㅇ In addition, the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) is planning to enter an MOU for construction finance cooperation for the joint entry into third country markets with the Spanish Financial Corporation. Also, Korea’s Smart City Association is planning to enter an MOU with Catalonia Trade & Investment to share experiences and success knowhow for the smart cities of the two nations.

□ MOLIT announced that it would go beyond simply supporting the bidding process for construction companies, but strengthen international diplomacy on future infrastructure through the cooperation team in this age where cooperation on overall infrastructure including railways and airports are needed.

ㅇ Also, it announced that the government would provide assertive support to diversify strategies for Korean construction companies according to the need for railway cooperation to organize the East Asia Railway Community and to respond to the low-price bidding strategies of Chinese construction companies.
