“Giving Wings to Transportation Data with the Ideas of Citizens”

- Hosting of the 8th Transportation Data Utilization Contest

□ MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) will hold the ‘8th Transportation Data Utilization Contest’ with the goal of spreading utilization of transportation data and to find and commercialize new businesses through creative ideas of the private sector.

ㅇ The fields of the contest include idea planning and startups (app, product, service development) for fields related to roads and transportation, and any citizen of the Republic of Korea can participate.

□ Training and mentoring will be provided for applicants and the submitted works will be reviewed by a review committee made by experts, and after final review of presentations, a total of 10 pieces will be picked for awarding including five for ideas and five for start-ups.

ㅇ The total prize is 24 million KRW and the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award will be given as the grand prize, Korea Expressway Corporation CEO Award and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority President Award as the first place award, and the Korea Transport Institute President Award as the second place award.

□ In particular, the Korea Expressway Corporation’s business and rest area, which were disclosed until now, be provided to help find various ideas through this contest, and the application period will also be significantly lengthened from two weeks to two months.

□ The grand-prize winners of each sector will not just receive awards, but also an opportunity to participate in the finals of the pan-government public data utilization startup contest.

ㅇ For collegiate winners, if they wish, they will be given the opportunity to participate in the collegiate experience-type field work at the Korea Expressway Corporation and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority through a separate review process.

ㅇ Winners who want to startup a business will also receive systematic follow-up measures to support startups such as potter skill market product registration, preferred interest rates through the mutual growth loan*, startup mentoring, etc.
