“Leave Your Heavy Bags with the Hotel to Depart”
- Test operation for Jeju Air passengers at Incheon Airport from the 28th... Free service until May

□ It will become possible to take ‘overseas trips’ empty-handed without lugging your baggage. MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) and the Incheon International Airport Corporation (President Jung Il-young) collaborated with Jeju Air (CEO Lee Seok-joo) to begin new luggage services called “Easy Drop” where luggage can be sent from outside of the airport and picked up at a foreign airport.

ㅇ The Easy Drop Service is part of the ‘General Smart Airport Plans’ being pursued by MOLIT since July of 2017, and it combines the advantages of the existing luggage delivery services and city airport terminals into one to enhance travel convenience of passengers.

□ First, pilot operations will begin from March 28 (Thu) for passengers departing from Incheon Airport using Jeju Air. The luggage is accepted by the Holiday Express Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and the services will be offered free-of-charge until May 31. The service is available even if you do not stay at the hotel.

ㅇ Passengers who wish to use this server should complete security procedures such as identification at the check-in counter at the hotel, receive your boarding pass, and hand over your luggage. This process can be expedited by checking-in in advance through the airline’s mobile app or homepage. The luggage received by the airline will be safely stored and transported and then loaded onto your flight, and safety accidents such as loss of bags will be prevented by recording the hotel and vehicle during the check-in and transportation process using CCTV.

□ MOLIT Director General for Aviation Policy Jin Hyun-hwan explained, “While easing regulations that restrict places where passengers can check in their baggage from where they want, we will strengthen aviation security such as self-identification, security and transportation procedures.” He added, “According to surveys (see attachment), passenger preference for Easy Drop Service is high, so it is expected that this will become more activated in the future.”

ㅇ MOLIT and Incheon Airport are planning to fine-tune the detailed procedures for checking in, storage and transportation through the test operation, and it is expected that larger airlines will also participate in the future. The logistics company Lotte Global Logis was registered as the airline handling company that will pick up the checked baggage, and it is actively participating by launching platforms needed to receive and transport the luggage.

□ Director General for Aviation Policy Jin Hyun-hwan said that with there now over 100 million overseas travelers every year, it is expected that there will be more confusion at the airport, and therefore announced that they would continue making policies to improve travel convenience, while strengthening aviation security. MOLIT is currently preparing for various test operations this year such as the Jeju Airport smart aviation security equipment, deployment of behavior detection agents, and introduction of biometric identification systems.
