Smart City National Pilot City to be Pursued in Earnest
- National pilot city Sejong and Busan task force team launched, opening event held on March 28 -
□ On March 28, MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) announced that with the launching of the ‘National pilot city Sejong and Busan task force team’, it will also hold the opening ceremony of offices for both the Sejong and Busan task forces to pursue the smart city national pilot city (Busan Eco Delta City / Sejong Neighborhood 5-1).
ㅇ The Sejong and Busan task forces will be comprised of a master planner, MOLIT, National Agency for Administrative City Construction, local government organizations (Busan Metropolitan City, Sejong Special Self-governing City), and the project implementer (K-water, LH) for each pilot city. It will oversee and adjust the overall pilot city project with the goal of concertizing smart services by the end of the year.
ㅇ At the opening ceremony were in attendance MP (Busan) Hwang Jong-sung, MP (Sejong) Jung Jae-seung and representatives from MOLIT, National Agency for Administrative City Construction, local government organizations, and project implementer (K-water, LH).
□ The smart city national pilot city aims at building a world-class smart city by configuring future new technologies of the fourth industrial revolution on a vacant site. Locations (2 sites) were selected in January of last year, and the basic plans (Jul ‘18) and execution plans (Dec ’18) have been established.
ㅇ On February 13, the Korean president and a total of over 300 people including representatives from relevant agencies and private companies attended the ‘Platform for Innovation, Smart City Built Together’ event to announce the execution plans per pilot city.
□ At the opening ceremony, Sejong Major Lee Chun-hee said, “We will do our best with the citizens and private sector create innovative services to solve urban and social issues through the national pilot city and to create a city that centers on people that will change the lives of citizen.”
ㅇ MOLIT Director General for Urban Policy Kwon Hyuk-jin said, “We will construct a close cooperative system among relevant agencies by operating the task force and accelerate efforts for building the smart city national pilot project.” He added, “We will concentrate on reaping visible achievements.”
