Vice Minister Park Sun-ho,“Abdullah New City, Model Case of Exporting Korean-style Smart City”
- Visit to Abdullah New City and interview with Minister of Public Works-slash-Minister of State for Housing Affairs -
□ Senior Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Park Sun-ho, who is currently visiting Kuwait together with Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, visited the site where Abdullah New City will be built on May 1 (Wed) and then met with Dr. Jinan Ramadan Boushehri, who is both the minister of public works and minister of state for housing affairs, and discussed measures on increasing cooperation in the infrastructure sector of the two nations on May 25 (Thur).
□ Abdullah New City is a project to build a new city over an area of 6,435 square meters (app. 40,000 homes) outside of Kuwait City and it began through an MOU signed between the governments of the two nations in May 2016.
ㅇ Currently, LH has established general plans and conducted execution designs at the request of Kuwait‘s Public Authority for Housing Welfare. On January 24 of this year, LH has signed pre-agreement for the new city development investment project with Kuwait‘s Public Authority for Housing Welfare.
ㅇ After completing the general planning work in the second half of this year, the main agreement for the project is expected to be entered and after establishing a special purpose venture (SPV), the main project is scheduled to be entered.
□ Vice Minister Park Sun-ho visited to scheduled site for the Abdullah New City on May 1 to check the local conditions and had the opportunity to search for future project pursuance directions with the relevant people including the CEO of LH.
ㅇ Vice Minister Park said, “We will provide full support so that the Abdullah New City can become a model case for exporting Korean-style smart cities abroad“.
□ On the following day, Vice Minister Park Sun-ho met with the minister of public works who is also the minister of state for housing affairs of Kuwait to discuss measures to strengthen exchange and cooperation in the infrastructure construction sector between the two nations.
ㅇ Vice Minister Park requested Kuwait’s government for cooperation so that the infrastructure cooperation project between the two countries that is currently in progress such as the Abdullah New City project will be successfully completed and more Korean companies will be able to participate.
ㅇ Regarding this, Minister Ramadan said, “I thank Korea‘s cooperation for the development Abdullah New City and I hope that it will become a global smart city in the future“. while adding, “We will provide full support so that the infrastructure cooperation relations between our two countries will become even stronger“.
□ Meanwhile, MOLIT announced that Abdullah New City is a smart city development project pursued together by Korea and Kuwait in a G2G approach, and that it expects more opportunities for various Korean companies in the construction, IT and other sectors to participate in this project, and said that it plans to provide full support for this.
