Recalls for Import Automobiles such as Porsche, Honda and Peugeot, Etc. Begins[4,197 cars from 12 models]

□ The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Kim Hyun-mee) announced that it would conduct voluntary corrective actions (recalls) on 4,197 vehicles from a total of 12 models of six import automobile companies such as Porsche, Honda, Peugeot, Volvo, BMW and FCA from which manufacturing defects were found.

□ First, in the case of 2,808 Panamera (970) imported and sold by Porsche Korea, it was found that there was the possibility of fires due to short-circuits in the internal circuits because there was moisture in between the sealing of the air conditioner vent control device, and thus recalls will be carried out.

ㅇ Free exchange to improved parts will be available at official Porsche service centers from June 3 for this vehicle. However, the improved parts will be available from Q3 of 2019, so temporary measures (additional sealing to prevent moisture inflow) until the parts are available.

□ Second, for 880 cars from two models such as the ODYSSEY imported and sold by Honda Korea, it was found that appropriate intensity was not procured owing to cog (part where belt and gear contacts) due to defective molding and hardening in the timing belt production process, thus having a flaw that could cause the cog to be damaged, causing the engine to stop and increasing risk of accidents, thereby affecting safe driving.

ㅇ Free inspections and replacement to improved parts can be received through the recall at the official Honda Korea service centers from May 29.

□ In the case of 440 Jeep Renegade (BV) vehicles imported and sold by FCA Korea, it was found that because of communication errors (transmission of wrong commands) with the passenger protection control module, there is the possibility that the air bag may not deploy properly, thus increasing risk of injuries for vehicle passengers.

ㅇ Services to change the passenger protection control program to an improved program can be received free-of-charge from May 24.

□ Fourth, for 35 cars from six models such as the Peugeot 508 2.0 BlueHDI sold and imported by Hanbul Motors, it was found that the high pressure fuel pipe nuts connected to the injector rail used parts that do not satisfy standards, making it possible to damage the fuel pipe and that due to this, there is the risk of fire.

ㅇ Recalls to switch with improved parts free-of-charge have been conducted since May 13 for these vehicles at official Peugeot service centers nationwide.

□ For 22 XC90 imported and sold by Volvo Korea, possibility of leaks due to cracks in the coolant hose was found.

For 12 i3 94ah* of BMW Korea, normal system operation is impossible due to circuit board defect of the power control device called EME (Electric Motor Electronics), and because of this, there is the possibility that power supply to the drive motor could be blocked, thus making it impossible to drive, and therefore, recalls are being conducted.
ㅇ Volvo has begun recalls since May 20 and BMW will begin recalls to exchange to improved parts free-of-charge at official service centers nationwide from May 24.

☐ The makers will notify the vehicle owners via mail or mobile phone text message on recall instructions and in the event that the vehicle owners repaired the respective defects at their own expense prior to the recall, the owners can request compensation to the maker for the repair costs.

□ MOLIT operates an automobile recall center (www.car.go.kr, 080-357-2500) for the purpose of collecting and analyzing manufacturing defect information of vehicles to ensure safety of citizens from automobile defects. In addition, vehicle owners are available to check whether their models are subject to recall and the detailed manufacturing defects and flaws any time through entering vehicle numbers in the homepage.
