- Enter ‘knife’ to show information 31 types of prohibited knives and also explain whether they can be carried in the cabin or checked in using illustrations -

□ MOLIT (Minister Kim Hyun-mee and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (President Kwon Byung-yoon) announced that they will provide the ‘prohibited item information system in planes’ to check which items can be carried on the plane and which items have to be placed in checked baggage.

□ The prohibited item information service will be operated by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (avsec.ts2020.kr) and it will provide information on which items can be taken on flight, which can be taken in the cabin, and which must be placed in checked baggage.

ㅇ For example, by entering knife in the search window, types of knives will be shown and by clicking on the knife that you possess, you can receive information on whether you can take it in the cabin or whether it must be placed in checked baggage to be placed in the cargo area using illustrations (to be completed by the end of the year) for ease of understanding by the general public.

ㅇ Services will be in both Korean and English so that foreigners may also conveniently use this service. Hazardous items often detected in the security search area of the airport will also be updated quarterly to help minimize confusion among airline passengers.

ㅇ In addition, a shortcut was added in the airline mobile app and homepage to easily access the ‘prohibited item information system in planes’.

□ Furthermore, it was announced that categorization systems will be simplified so that the general public can more easily understand the criteria for prohibited items on the plane and that the ‘prohibited item list in planes’ would be revised and enforced (Jun 28, 2019) so that the Korea Transportation Safety Authority can provide the ‘prohibited item information system in planes’.

□ A spokesperson from MOLIT said, the revision of the ‘prohibited item list in planes’ is not a change in the prohibited items in planes, and that it simply allows users to easily check and conveniently use the service.

ㅇ There were over three million prohibited items detected at Incheon Airport in 2018 and a significant amount include everyday items. It is expected that with the ‘prohibited item list in planes’, it will be possible to reduce user inconveniences and allow security inspectors to concentrate more on searching for explosives.
