MOLIT work with KORAIL and Local Governments to Integrate Transportation Information

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the Korea Railroad Corporation(KORAIL, CEO Hui Seung Na) announced that they are working together to integrate railway and public transportation information with cooperation from local governments to raise convenience in the use of railway.

With an integrated information of rail and bus, the new service within the railway reservation app KORAIL Talk will help users to check their transfer information (bus route, live location of the bus) to their final destination without the use of additional apps or portal sites.

In addition, MOLIT and KORAIL are planning to pursue the establishment of a railway-based integrated information platform, as known as RaaS (Rail as a Service) through further expansion of services provided within the integrated system. The concept of RaaS was introduced to provide an integrated transportation information service centered-around railways in addition to the utilization of the integrated transportation service (MaaS, Mobility as a Service).

The users will be able to more easily access local attractions and other customized information with the app providing comprehensive and diverse public transportation information on the railways and local areas based on the demands of the railway users.

The integration plan is the first stage service of RaaS, and will be followed by the second stage, the integration of information of local attractions, and the third stage, the integration of other customized information for the users.

The second and third stage will be conducted with joint efforts from local governments to better apply appropriate information with accurate representation of local characteristics to meet the demands of the users.

As an effort to seek cooperation with local governments, MOLIT Assistant Minister for Railway Hee-up Kang attended the Conference for provision of railway and public transportation information integration service on 8 February and said, “We will be providing a more advanced railway service through collaboration with local governments starting with the integrated information service(Raas).”

He added, “We will further contribute to developing diversified and advanced models with joint efforts from relevant local governments and utilize the KORAIL Talk, currently used by 8 million people, as a medium for local promotions, etc.”
