In South Korea, there is a unique housing lease system, which is called Jeonse, paying a large upfront lump-sum deposit to the landlord to
be refunded at the end of the lease period. With this regard, to prevent any types of fraud related to that type of housing contract, the
government has been promoting a variety of efforts.
This time, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT, Minister PARK Sang-woo) and the Korea Real Estate Board (REB,
Chairperson SON Tae-rak) in collaboration with the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation and other related institutions introduced a participatory educational program using board games to help young adults prevent Jeonse scams.
Since February 2025, MOLIT has been operating "on-site Jeonse fraud prevention education" at local universities and governments along
with launching a campaign with university student supporters as the ambassadors for “Solid Steps for Safe Jeonse” to actively present safe
rental contract practices among their peers.
