The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) has designated Drone Special Free Zones on 29 July for its third time*, aimed at

accelerating commercialization of drone service models and expanding the foundation for drone technology demonstrations, significantly increasing the designated zones to a total number of 67 in 32 local governments nationwide.

* (1st designation in 2021) 31 zones in 14 local governments

(2nd designation in 2023) 18 zones in 9 local governments

(3rd designation in 2025) 18 zones in 9 local governments

These Drone Special Free Zones allowing exemption or simplification of six key drone-related regulations, including flight approval, special

flight approval, and safety certification, etc. are designed to operate drones in accordance with safety management by local governments.

This initiative enables private companies to move beyond laboratory testing and conduct real-world drone demonstrations based on the Act on Promotion of Utilization of Drones and Creation of Infrastructure Therefor, which shortens the timeline for test flights and service

demonstrations of drones by approximately 3 to 5 months or more.
