The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT, Minister KIM Yun-duk) and the Korea Expressway Corporation (President HAM Jin-gyu) announced that the Pohang–Yeongdeok section of the Donghae National Expressway will officially open to traffic at 10:00 a.m. on
November 8th.
The newly opened section spans 30.9 kilometers as a four-lane expressway. A total of KRW 1.6115 trillion was invested in the project, which
began in 2016 and has now been completed after approximately nine years of construction.
With the opening of the new expressway, travel distance between Heungha-eup in Pohang and Ganggu-myeon in Yeongdeok will be
reduced by about 6 kilometers (from 37 km to 31 km, a 16% reduction) saving its travel time by approximately 23 minutes (from 42 minutes
to 19 minutes, a 55% reduction).
In addition, a substantial portion traffic from the adjacent national highway route 7 is also expected to be eased by being shared with the
new expressway enhancing its traffic flow during commuting hours and tourism seasons alongside the East Sea.
