The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was first established in 1948 with the name of the Ministry of Transportation. After, it was re-named as the Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Construction and Transportation and the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.
In 2013, the Ministry was reorganized and newly named as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

    Mar 23 Establishment of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport: Two vice ministers, five offices, four bureaus, 16 director-generals and 80 divisions (956 officials) * Maritime affairs under the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs were excluded, such as shipping logistics, ports and maritime environment.

  • The government established the Ministry of Transport in 15 August 1948 to be responsible for road, railway, air transport and shipping.
  • In 18 June 1962, the Ministry of Construction was newly established with an aim to efficiently develop territory and became an important government organization in charge of industrial location, urban development, housing and water resources.
  • From the late 1980s, the number of private vehicles surged due to the increase in national income and thus social cost went up significantly. Under these circumstances, development of efficient transport policy was one of the priorities of the government.
  • in December 1994, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Transport were merged into the Ministry of Construction and Transport to pursue small government, reduce traffic congestion, increase investment in social infrastructure and develop an efficient transport system.
  • With the launch of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation, transport infrastructure was constructed and operated more efficiently, which greatly solved transport and logistics problems.
  • In February 2008, the new government merged two ministries in charge of shipping, logistics and marine environment, construction and transport and established the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs to pursue small but competitive government, increase the values and use of territory by combining the roles of territorial & marine resource management and economic infrastructure support.
  • In February 2013, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs was divided into two Ministries such as the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, which is in charge of future-oriented territorial development, safe and convenient infrastructure and transport development.
